East Gippsland

GippSport’s East Gippsland office has been re-established in February of 2021 following the successive traumas of the region across the last five years.

The office plays host to a range of programs: Streetgames, Make Your Move and Community Sport Recovery all thanks to the funding from: Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Bushfire Recovery Victoria and Gippsland Primary Health Network.

Community Sport Recovery

The Community Sport Recovery Program is funded by the State of Victoria through the Bushfire Recovery Victoria grant program in response to the 2019-20 bushfires which impacted East Gippsland and North-eastern Victorian communities. Its primary aim is to help communities in East Gippsland recover from the Eastern Victorian bushfires and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Additionally, it exists to support community sports clubs and associations and help them reconnect with their communities.

We are delivering the following to assist clubs and associations in East Gippsland recover from the 2020 Bushfires and COVID-19 Pandemic.

  • Helping clubs and associations re-engage with their communities post the 2020 Bushfires.
  • Working with clubs and associations on governance policies.
  • Development of COVIDSafe plans and policies.
  • Assisting clubs and associations with grant proposals and marketing initiatives.
  • Providing community wellbeing programs for club and association members.
  • Assisting clubs to reduce volunteer workload through town shared services of club administration and communication.

MAke Your Move

The Make Your Move project involves two main programs, Kiddo and community activations, both of which are funded by Gippsland Primary Health Network. Kiddo is all about enhancing the physical literacy of the children of East Gippsland, providing them with the skills, confidence, and motivation to be active for life. The fundamental movement skills of Kiddo are perfect for children aged 2-8 years old. The Kiddo program also provides employment opportunities to help build local capacity, with coaching roles available, with support from the Program Officer. Community activation events aim to encourage families and people of all ages to partake in fun, recreational activities together to promote positive social interactions while participating in physical activity. These events will be held across the whole of  East Gippsland throughout the year.

streetgames

Streetgames East Gippsland is funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and Bushfire Recovery Victoria to deliver subsidised, fun, and inclusive pop-up sports and games to all young people across East Gippsland.

The Streetgames program aims to provide a range of free social and modified sports at the right time, right place, and in the right style for young people across East Gippsland, so they can get active and connected. Social sport includes more flexible, fun and less-structured opportunities to participate in physical activity with less emphasis on performance, results and competition. It’s about finding an activity that helps people move and become more active. Streetgames is co-designed and led by young people for young people. The program provides opportunities to build local capacity and offer employment to young people to deliver Streetgames in their own towns with the support of the Program Officer.

At present, we are delivering Streetgames in the following areas:

  • Bairnsdale
  • Lindenow
  • Bruthen
  • Lakes Entrance
  • Buchan
  • Mallacoota
