Gippsland Power All Abilities Football – Rd 7 & 8 review

Round 7 of the FIDA football league continued on Sunday 29 June at Mazenod as Gippsland played Mazenod for the first time in 2014. The first quarter was a low scoring affair with the 2 teams kicking one goal between them, a ripper by Sam Horner for Gippsland.

The second quarter was dominated by Gippsland with goals to Steve Scholz, Dave Bowen and Matt Keily to take a handy lead into half time.

The third quarter was more evenly matched with both sides kicking 2 goals for the quarter.  Gippsland’s goals came through Steve Scholz and Michael Scholz helping Gippsland continue their momentum leading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter the old guard of Kelvin Walters, Sam Horner, Jamie Brewington and Paddy Maurice kept the pressure on Mazenod as Gippsland ran out comfortable winners.

The final scores were:
Gippsland:  6.13.49
Mazenod: 2.5.17

Round 8 was Gippsland’s last home game of the season coming up against North Footscray at Western Park Warragul. Gippsland jumped out of the blocks early with 2 goals to none in the first quarter, both goals were kicked by Steve Schulz.

In the second quarter Gippsland again kicked 2 goals but North Footscray came back through some great play and kicked 1 goal and the margin was cut back to 18 points at the main break with goals to Sam Horner and Andrew Costi.

The third quarter was a tight affair.  Sam Horner, Matt Cartwright, Jamie Brewington, Kelvin Walters and Michael Schulz kept Gippsland in the game with some great pressure acts but at the final break North Footscray had a small lead.

The fourth quarter saw an evenly contested match but in the end North Footscray kicked away to give Gippsland its first loss of the season.
