Welcome back.  We are geared up for another huge year in sport across Gippsland.  2016 sees a few staff changes at GippSport, we say goodbye to Chris Stanlake, welcome Ryan Evans and prepare for Jaquie Nethercote’s maternity leave.

Chris Stanlake, our Program Coordinator for Latrobe City and Baw Baw, finished with GippSport on 29 January 2016. We were indeed fortunate to have Chris with us for over five years. At this stage we are not advertising Chris’s position as we are awaiting State Government funding announcements from Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV). GippSport has applied for funding for the next three financial years under a newly created Supporting Victorian Sport and Recreation Program. This program will commence on 1 July 2016 and merges the current Access for All Abilities (AAA) Program with the Regional Sport and Recreation Program (RSRP). This will lead to GippSport re-defining duties for some staff and giving consideration to re- structuring the organization in line with our 2016-19 Strategic Plan. We anticipate that SRV will announce funding arrangement sometime this month and we will then be in a position to advertise one full time position.

We are also delighted to announce that Jaquie Nethercote (East Gippsland Program Coordinator) is having a baby. Jaquie will commence Maternity Leave from Friday 25 March 2016 and we are still considering how we will staff the Bairnsdale office in her absence.

Ryan Evans commenced working for GippSport 25 January 2016. Ryan has replaced Dawn Martin and is working in the Wellington area.

VicHealth funding for the Regional Sport Program (RSP) is locked in for another two and a half years. The Deadly Sport Gippsland (DSG) funding from the Department of Health and Human Services has been extended to 30 June 2017. GippSport is a Community Partner which delivers the Good Sports Program funded by the Australian Drug Foundation. Now that Level 3 Good Sports clubs carry out their monitoring online we are experiencing a sharp decline in the number of clubs we can work with. Unless there is a massive uptake of new clubs we anticipate that we will have no Good Sports clubs to work with in eighteen months.

Under existing agreements GippSport is committed to achieving all targets set to 30 June 2016 in the AAA, RSRP, VicHealth RSP, DSG and Good Sports Programs. We are also committed to working with our sporting clubs in Gippsland in the area of Prevention of Men’s Violence Against Women and Children.
