With the Australian Open finished many are feeling the need to give tennis a try.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved, then the Bairnsdale Tennis Club in partnership with Tennis Victoria and GippSport have the opportunity for you.
FAST4 Tennis started in Bairnsdale last Thursday with around 30 people coming to have a go. It’s tennis with a twist and is a fast, fun way to have a hit with friends. There are still spots available so be quick to register.
With modified rules such as; first to 4 games wins a set; always play lets; at deuce the next point wins; tie breaker is played at 3 games all and the first to 2 sets wins the match, means you will be on and off the court fast.
Ms Jaquie Nethercote from GippSport is excited to be implementing FAST4 Tennis with the Bairnsdale Tennis Club, and Tennis Victoria as a result of the VicHealth Regional Sport Program (RSP).
Through RSP, GippSport is focusing on developing new opportunities to increase the number of people participating in sport with a particular focus on those currently inactive or who have lower levels of physical activity.
“It is a great way to become more active and involved in sport, especially for those who are looking to get back into tennis at social level or are new to the game. The game is quick, meaning you do not have to spend long hours on the court and it’s a game where the family can all be involved,” said Ms Nethercote.
The Bairnsdale Tennis Club President, David Downie, invites new, past and present players to become involved in the new format.
“Everyone is welcome to come and FAST4 Tennis. The first week we will be hosting a BBQ and having a grading night to make sure that the competition is fair and equal. I encourage everyone to come and try it out.”
