Gippsland was well represented at the Netball Victoria State Netball Titles, held in Bendigo on the weekend of 10-11 October, with an All Abilities team from each of the Gippsland & Latrobe regions.
Off the back of huge growth in All Abilities netball programs during the 2015 season, thanks to a highly successful partnership between Netball Victoria and GippSport, this was the first year that two Gippsland representative teams participated at State Titles. Athletes from the Leongatha & District Netball Association All Abilities program represented Gippsland Region, and athletes from the Drouin & District Netball Association represented Latrobe Region.

For the first time in 2015 Netball Victoria provided two All Abilities divisions, a championship division as well as a Reserve (participatory) division. Both Gippsland sides played in the Championship division.
The Gippsland sides were highly competitive and played each of their matches in great spirit. The Gippsland side finished a very credible 3rd with Latrobe finishing 5th.
GippSport Access for All Abilities Program Manager Dan Poynton said, “I’m very proud of the All Abilities Netball sides, they’ve had a massive year. For the Leongatha (Gippsland) group to finish 3rd at State Titles in their first year playing is a huge achievement. The Drouin (Latrobe) team got very close in a number of their matches and should be very proud of how they played”.
GippSport would like to thank the Baw Baw Shire Council & the South Gippsland Shire Council for providing great support to the two sides by providing some grant assistance to help the teams get to Bendigo.
Netball Victoria & GippSport are currently working on a regional All Abilities Netball Strategy. Through the implementation of this strategy it is hoped that there are further All Abilities programs in Moe/Morwell, Sale & Bairnsdale for next season to complement the programs already existing in Leongatha & Drouin.
