Round 10 of the FIDA football league, the final round before finals, was played on Sunday 10 August with our Gippsland Power All Abilities team facing Sandown away.  Both sides needed to win to cement their spot in the top four leading into finals – Gippsland fighting for the minor premiership and Sandown to hold onto fourth spot.

In a tight tussle, the first quarter was quite evenly matched.  Brothers Michael & Steven Scholz both registered majors for Gippsland to give them a one goal lead heading into the first break.

The second and third quarters were very close.  The Sandown team showed great determination and kept coming no matter how much pressure Gippsland put on them and it was anybody’s game going.  Each time Gippy got a bit of breathing space on the score board, Sandown would reply and level the scores.  Late goals in the third quarter to Sam Horner and Jaime Brewington gave Gippsland a handy lead at 3/4 time.

Only a few goals were kicked in the final quarter, in the end Gippsland’s midfield players were able to maintain their run and kick a couple of late goals to run out 25 point winners. This secured top spot on the ladder and was the team’s 8th win of the year.

Final scores:
Gippsland: 8.10.58
Sandown:  4.9. 33
