16 clubs from across the Baw Baw Shire and Latrobe City have given their clubs the edge by joining the VicHealth Healthy Sporting Environments program.
Each club has completed a number of assessments through the Club Help website to see how they manage with regards to alcohol management, reducing tobacco use, UV protection, managing and preventing injuries, healthy eating and being more inclusive of everyone.
While doing the UV protection module, The Moe Cricket Club completed a shade audit which identified that there was an urgent need for shade at one of the club’s venues. From the shade audit the club is now the beneficiary of some funding to build a shelter that will provide substantial shade for players and spectators.
For being a part of the program, clubs have been able to offer subsidised training opportunities for their volunteers. Club volunteers have been trained up in the following areas, Responsible Serving of Alcohol, Food Handling and Level 1 first aid.
