On Friday 6 December Bass Coast Specialist School hosted South Gippsland Specialist School & Baringa School in the first Gippsland Inter Special School athletics carnival.

GippSport’s Access for All Abilities program manager Dan Poynton organised the day with a significant amount of help from Mark Lindsay Regional Manager of the Active After School Communities Program and Vice President of Wonthaggi Little Athletics Club.

Wonthaggi Little Aths club donated their equipment for the day and local business Donmix donated 2 cubic meters of sand which was used for a long jump pit.

70 students from the three schools competed in 9 different events including:

  • 70m Sprint
  • 40m Hurdles
  • 1 Lap run/walk
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Javelin
  • Discus
  • Shot Put
  • Shuttle Relay

A highlight of the day was the teachers race with staff from the 3 schools battling it out down the 70m sprint.
