On Sunday 5 October the Latrobe Valley All Abilities netball team participated in the Netball State titles at the State Netball Hockey Centre.

In what was a fantastic tournament the Valley team, representing and made up of players from all over Gippsland, played in Division 1 against Ringwood, Bendigo, Barwon & the Wimmera.

The Latrobe Valley team looked amazing in their new uniforms and named hoodies. All 12 players were extremely excited to be playing in the prestigious State Titles. It was the first time for youngster Lara Gair who thoroughly enjoyed her stint in Goal Shooter.

Latrobe Valley worked really hard in the Grand Final against rivals Barwon, and after a nail biting finish came away eventual winners by just one goal. This turned the tables on Barwon who defeated Latrobe Valley in the Grand Final in 2012.

All of the players recieved a gold medal and Coach Janet Parker and Captain Mitchell Price were honoured to accept the winning premiership cup.

Coach Parker said, “The stand out for me today though was when Sian James-Bazeley went above and beyond to help out fellow opponent GK from Wimmera Whippets. It made my heart soar when Sian assisted her opponent, I was so proud of her and went and gave her a high 5. It’s incidents like this that make my job as a coach so rewarding.”
