Maffra Gymnastics was a very proud winner in the 2014 Victorian Health Promotion Foundation Awards on 3 December 2014. Winning the ‘Building Health Through Sport’ award with Gymnastics for All, highlighting the fantastic work the club has done over the last few years.

Gymnastics for All was designed to offer people with disabilities in Maffra and the surrounding area, the opportunity to take part in gymnastics in the hope that participants would become more active, have fun, and increase their strength, balance and mobility. Coaches leading the program also gain skills and experience working with and facilitating classes for people of all abilities.  Robyn Dowse, Head Coach at Maffra Gymnastics said “that it is great to see the improved confidence that participants gain through the program. Their willingness to try different activities each week also has increased.”

GippSport’s Access for All Abilities coordinator Brenton Dinsdale said “the club has been willing to go the extra mile to make sure all participants enjoy themselves and have a go at all the equipment.” He went on to say “the club has well trained staff that care about the participants and through an Access Audit identified some changes to be made that would make the gymnastics centre even more accessible.”

The VicHealth Award is a prestigious state wide award. GippSport would like to congratulate Maffra Gymnastics and also acknowledge the support they have received from Gymnastics Victoria.
