On Friday August 23, our Access for All Abilities Program Manager Dan Poynton headed off up to Mt Baw Baw with the middle years class from Warragul Specialist School.  Dan had been working with Snowsports instructor Sarah Wilcock and developing and promoting their brand new adaptive program to people with a disability.

10 students from Warragul Specialist School arrived, having never seen the snow before, and headed off with Sarah to get kitted up to hit the slopes.  Once boots, gloves, beanies and water proof gear was on it was off down to the snow sports centre to get amongst it.

A couple of the guys were keen to try snowboarding, some skiing and young Nick was keen for the sit-ski.  After a couple of quick shake down runs on the magic carpet area with all groups the staff were keen to hit the main skiing area.  The students excelled on the slopes and had the Mt Baw Baw staff thrilled with their progress.

The team at Mt Baw Baw will be working with Dan & GippSport over the summer season to promote the adaptive program widely across the region.  Keep your ears open for more First Time Ski Taster sessions next winter and feel free to contact Dan or Mt Baw Baw with any adaptive ski questions that you had.  Click HERE for more information about the Adaptive program.
