A strip of orange tape united four Gippsland football-netball clubs on the weekend in a bid to end men’s violence against women and children. The Gippsland League grand final rematch between Leongatha and Traralgon and the East Gippsland Football Netball League fixture between Boisdale Briagolong and Lucknow were dedicated to the Orange Round.

Developed in partnership with the Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault, Gippsland Women’s Health, AFL Gippsland and the Wellington and South Gippsland Shires, the concept is an adaption of United Nation’s “Orange Day”, which occurs on the 25th of each month and aimed to raise awareness of the issue and drive change in societal attitudes and behaviours.

As well as football and netball teams wearing orange arm bands, each participating club hosted an information session for its players and support staff in the weeks prior to the game. Orange wrist bands promoting the Orange Round message of ‘respect, dignity and equality, as well as information and support materials were also distributed to the attending patrons at each venue.
