On a beautiful late Summer’s day, Yachting Victoria’s mobile Sailability unit traveled down to Phillip Island to run a come & try day for local service providers in partnership with GippSport’s Access for All Abilities program, Cowes Yacht Club, Newhaven Yacht Squadron & Inverloch Windsurfing Club.

Over 35 participants attended the day, and as part of the program tried their hands at sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding as well as cruising around in the rescue boats.  Gippsland currently has three sailability programs in the region and this come and try day was an initiative driven by GippSport to establish a fourth program in the South Gippsland/Bass Coast region.

GippSport’s Dan Poynton & Yachting Victoria’s Sailability Coordinator, Lesley Fasalo, were ecstatic with how the day went.  The feedback from the participant groups was extremely positive:

Hi Dan,
I just wanted to send a quick note that feedback from staff and students was fantastic.  Everyone had a great day, many thanks.

Hello Dan,
Just wanted to let you know the staff and young adults that attended Sailability on Monday loved it – we would definitely love to be part of this program. Good on you, for being part of implementing programs such as these for our young adults .
Thank you, kind regards.
