The Sailability mobile unit will travel with 4 boats, a rescue boat and instructors to the Bass Coast region on Monday 24 February. GippSport’s Access for All Abilities program manager Dan Poynton, in partnership with Sailability Victoria & the Cowes Yacht Club will be providing local people of all abilities the opportunity to Discover Sailing.

Off the back of his highly successful International Day of People with Disability Beach Festival at Cowes Yacht Club in Dec 2012, and after two years of negotiation, GippSport’s Dan Poynton is ecstatic that this opportunity is coming to the Bass Coast Region.

“We have 3 Sailability program’s in Gippsland, at Hazelwood pondage, Sale & Paynesville.  With the facilities and beautiful beaches that are available down South it makes sense that we can offer local people a Sailability program rather than have people drive to the valley.”

The program, supported by volunteers from Cowes Yacht Club & Newhaven Yacht Squadron, will provide Hansa training boats which are easy to sail, small boats.  They are ideal for people who haven’t sailed before. Most sailors will be accompanied by an experienced partner. Yachting Victoria’s Sailability Coordinator, Lesley Fasala said, “Sailing is for everyone; it would be great for the community to come and Discover Sailing with Sailability!”

GippSport & Yachting Victoria are also searching for more volunteers to assist with this come & try day on Monday 24 February.  No sailing experience is necessary.
