On Saturday March 19 GippSport AAA coordinators Dan Poynton and Brenton Dinsdale teamed up with Rural Access Wellington Shire along with another 8 participants for the 30km paddle in East Gippsland.
The Sale to Sea one day challenge was held leaving Bairnsdale at 9am with a lunch stop at the Silt Jetties. After leaving and heading towards the mouth of the lake on the way to Metung, due to weather circumstances it was deemed unsafe to cross and the call was made to head back to Bairnsdale.
One of the GippSport/Rural Access Wellington teams participants James Griffiths wanted to congratulate all participants on completing the challenge. “We paddled well as a team considering their was four seasons in one day. It was wet and windy but worth it.”
Over the past months, regular training sessions had been held to assist people with their kayaking techniques and to help build fitness levels. The next Sale to Sea challenge will be held in March 2017. “We are already excited and look forward to next years four day challenge,” Mr Griffiths said.
