Gippsland Sport Census

The sport census is a tool that GippSport has created to gain valuable insights and understand the challenges that sporting clubs face across the sector to be able to tailor our services to meet the needs of the community.

2023 Survey

This year, we hope to gain further insight into the current landscape of grassroots sporting clubs throughout Gippsland. There are two parts to this year’s survey.

Part 1: Membership/Participation

This section is based on membership and participation to give us an understanding of your club members, identifying participation trends and possible support your club may require going forward.

Part 2: Non-playing roles

This section is focused on non-playing roles to give us an understanding of your club workforce (paid and unpaid), volunteer recruitment and management, and workforce training.

The Gippsland Sports Census is open to entrants who are a sporting club or association within the Gippsland Region.

Every club/association that completes our Sports Census will automatically be entered into our prize draw.

By completing the Sports Census, you confirm that you are eligible to do so on behalf of your club/association and that you are eligible to receive any prizes on behalf of your club that may be awarded.

There is a limit of one entry per club/association, and the competition is completely free to enter.

The Prize

We will randomly select one winning club/association per each LGA. Each club winner will receive the following:

  • $250 to put towards a youth (under 18 years old) program,
  • One dedicated club workshop chosen from a list provided by a GippSport Program Coordinator
  • The GippSport Club Health Check conducted by GippSport staff.
The GippSport Club Health Check covers 7 different functional areas within a club – Resilience & Capacity, Women and Girls Participation, Inclusive Participation, Facilities, Meeting Demand, Community Citizenship, and Participation Experience
GippSport staff sit down with a club to complete the check, then in collaboration with the club to develop a bespoke Club Improvement Plan then work with the club to assist in the implementation.

2021 survey

In 2021, we created our first Sports Census, to understand the effects of COVID-19 on the sporting clubs within Gippsland. With over 220 responses, that data was extremely valuable in guiding our work as we supported our community clubs through covid recovery.
