GippSport is continuing its campaign to level the playing field when it comes to gender equality in community sport with a new event showcasing the role of women and girls in sport and active recreation.
Balancing The Board – A Celebration of Women in Sport Governance aims to highlight inspiring local women and their work leading change in sport through committee roles.
The event will take place at two locations – The Vines on Avon in Maffra on Saturday, 5 March, and Inverloch’s RACV Resort on Sunday, 6 March – in the lead up to International Women’s Day on 8 March. Both events run from 10:30am to 1:30pm.
The initiative is supported by the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation via a Change Our Game Community Activation Grant and forms part of the Changing Gippsland’s Game campaign, through which GippSport has sought to build confidence and knowledge of local women who work or volunteer in community sport across the region.
This work has included the delivery of good governance training and the establishment of a community network to support women in Gippsland on their leadership journey and has involved community administrators across all six of Gippsland’s local government areas and a wide variety of sports.
Change Our Game ambassador and three-time Paralympian Madeleine Hogan will attend the events as guest speaker.
Hogan, who is the Business Development Manager at Bluescope and Director of the Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria board, will speak about her journey as a successful board member and how she has been able to influence organisations by using good governance practices, showing a pathway to leadership.
The event will also include a question-and-answer panel featuring inspiring local women, and a presentation of GippSport’s Change Our Game Regional Governance and Changing Gippsland’s Game Leadership Program participants awards.
