Government announcements that may help your club through COVID-19

To assist and support Gipspland’s clubs, leagues and associations impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, we have compiled a list of the latest Government announcements that might be applicable to community sport.

Please check your club, leagues or associations eligibility for anything that you’re interested in applying for.  Your Treasurer and/or bookkeeper should be able to help advise specific information in relation to your circumstance.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Clubs impacted by the Coronavirus may be able to claim a fortnightly subsidy of $1,500 per eligible employee from the Government to continue paying their employees.

Note: at the time of publishing the final structure of the Job Keeper stimulus has not passed legislation.

The Government will provide tax-free cash flow boosts of between $20,000 and $100,000 to eligible organisations, delivered through credits in the activity statement system, when eligible businesses lodge their Business Activity Statements

The Government is supporting small business to retain their apprentices and trainees. Eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of 50 per cent of the apprentice’s or trainee’s wage paid during the 9 months from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020

STATE GOVERNMENT – VICTORIA

Businesses with annual taxable wages up to $3M will have their payroll tax for the 2019-2020 financial year waived. Eligible businesses must continue to lodge returns but do not need to make further payments for this financial year. Businesses will also be eligible to defer any payroll tax liability for the first three months of the 2020-21 financial year until January 1, 2021.

Businesses that have paid for a renewable liquor licence for 2020 will be reimbursed their licence fee and those yet to pay will have the fee waived.

VCGLR are allowing virtual classroom delivery of the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training by VCGLR approved Registered Training Organisations.

Small businesses are eligible if they meet all these criteria:

  • Employ staff
  • Have been subject to closure or is highly impacted by shutdown restrictions announced by the Victorian Government to-date. For more information on affected sectors refer to the Non-Essential Activity Directions issued by the Deputy Chief Health Officer.
  • Have a turnover of more than $75,000
  • Have payroll of less than $650,000

GIPPSLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

  • Paying all invoices/suppliers no later than 14 day terms to improve cashflow (rather than the usual 30 days);
  • Providing a waiver of rent or fees for sporting groups utilising Council owned lands/grounds and buildings for the 2020 winter season;

COVID-19 Business and Community Response and Recovery package

  • $700,000 Business and Community Resilience grants program.  Grant amounts between $1000 – $30,000.  Not yet open, information available on Council’s Grant’s webpage.
