Mental Health Matters: Equip Your Club with Tackle Your Feelings

As the 2024 football and netball season approaches, GippSport is teaming up with the renowned Tackle Your Feelings (TYF) program to bring free mental health training to community clubs across Gippsland. This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

Mental well-being is just as crucial as physical fitness in sports. Tackle Your Feelings equips coaches, committee members, and support staff with the tools to understand, recognise, and respond to signs of mental ill-health in their players. Developed by mental health professionals and backed by AFL greats, this program is a game-changer.

In 2023, over 3,500 participants from 180 clubs across Australia benefited from TYF’s 156 workshops, including several in Gippsland. The program’s impact speaks volumes, with participants gaining invaluable insights and resources to support their players’ mental health journey.

But what exactly is Tackle Your Feelings?

Inspired by mental health education for AFL professionals, TYF offers a 90-minute face-to-face presentation by a local psychologist, complemented by online learning modules. Ambassadors like Daniel Gorringe, Nathan Buckley, Brit Bonnici, Ellie Blackburn, Steven May, and Dylan Buckley lend their voices to the program, sharing their experiences and insights.

Born from tragedy after the untimely passing of Adelaide coach Phil Walsh in 2015, TYF was formed by the AFL Coaches Association, AFL Players’ Association, and Zurich Insurance in 2018. Its effectiveness has been validated by Monash University’s evaluation in 2021.

Don’t miss this opportunity to equip your club with the knowledge and resources to prioritise mental health. Tackle Your Feelings is a free program, and GippSport will facilitate sessions throughout Gippsland during the 2024 season.

Coaches who complete the training will not only gain access to ongoing learning resources like blogs, podcasts, and videos but also have the chance to win great prizes through the Tackle Your Feelings Rewards Program.
