Sale Tennis Club has launched a new tennis program for neurodiverse and all-abilities players, and it’s already making a real difference in the community.
The first Open Day, held on June 21, was a genuine success. Turnout was strong, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and it was clear from the response that this program was filling a real gap for local families.
Building on that momentum, the club is now preparing for a second Open Day on Sunday 19 July 2026. It’s another chance for players of all abilities to come along, give tennis a try, and experience a session designed around them rather than expecting them to fit a standard mould. The format is relaxed, adaptable, and built to meet each participant where they’re at.
The bigger goal here is to turn these Open Days into something ongoing. If momentum continues, the club is aiming to launch a permanent, weekly inclusive tennis program from Term 3, giving neurodiverse and all-abilities players a regular place to play, connect, and belong.
We love seeing more opportunities like this pop up across our community. Programs like this don’t just teach a sport, they create a space where people who might not otherwise get the chance to play feel genuinely welcome. It’s exactly the kind of grassroots initiative that makes Gippsland sport stronger for everyone.
If you know a family or player who’d benefit from getting involved, encourage them to come along to the July Open Day.
