Six Specialist Schools Unite to Conquer the East Gippsland Rail Trail

Recently, the GippSport team had the absolute privilege of hitting the track to support a massive two-day inclusive bike ride along the stunning East Gippsland Rail Trail. Brilliantly organized by the Blackwood Outdoor Education Centre, the event brought together six different specialist schools from right across the Gippsland region, uniting 40 students of all abilities for a truly epic outdoor challenge.

The Two-Day Challenge

The route was no small feat, designed to challenge the riders while showcasing some of Gippsland’s most beautiful landscapes. The students tackled the trail in two major legs:

  • Day 1: Nicholson to Nowa Nowa

  • Day 2: Nowa Nowa to Orbost

Watching the students conquer these distances supporting and encouraging each other along every kilometer of the trail was nothing short of amazing. The ride proved that with the right support, structure, and encouragement, outdoor recreation and endurance sports are truly for everyone.

Building Stronger Regional Connections

Beyond assisting with the on-ground logistics and cheering on the riders, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for the GippSport team to connect directly with the staff and representatives from all six participating specialist schools.

These grassroots connections are vital. By understanding the unique needs and goals of our regional specialist schools, GippSport can continue to tailor our support, advocate for better inclusive facilities, and help build a stronger network of adaptive sports programming across the entire Gippsland region.

Looking to the Future

The energy, enthusiasm, and overall success of the ride were so undeniable that the best possible outcome has been achieved: this East Gippsland Rail Trail ride has officially been locked in as a new annual event. We cannot wait to see it grow in 2027 and beyond.
