GippSport Community Programs Host Successful Skate Jams in Partnership with Wellington Shire Council during Parks Week
Over the past month, the GippSport Community Programs team has been hosting a series of Skate Jams, with fantastic results. The events, which feature a “Come and Try” approach, have seen the team teach a diverse range of skateboarding abilities and assist participants in achieving their skateboarding goals.
Partnering with Wellington Shire Council as part of Parks Week, the first Skate Jam took place in Rosedale on March 4th, with 25 participants of all ages. The team reported that it was encouraging to see so many people trying skateboarding for the first time and learning quickly.
On March 7th, the team held another Skate Jam in Maffra, which saw around 200 people, including many students from Maffra Secondary College, attend the event. The team received great feedback from teachers, who were pleased to see kids riding around and taking part.
The Yarram Skate Jam on March 10th also saw a high level of participation, with approximately 180 students taking part and 300 students watching their classmates.
The last event, held in Heyfield on March 11th, had around 20 people attend, and the coaches gathered feedback from participants, partners, and guardians. One parent was particularly impressed with Hayden, who had only skated once before but managed to drop into the bowl and found it “awesome.”
The GippSport Community Programs team would like to thank all the schools who encouraged their students to participate, as well as Wellington Shire Council for their support in making the events such a success.
