What Club are you from?
Boisdale-Briagolong Football Club
What is your role?
Senior women’s coach/player
How did you get into your role?
The club approached me and asked me to take on the role as coach as they thought I was a good fit for the role. I had played 2 seasons prior to coaching this year.
What challenges have you faced in regards to gender equality and how have you overcome these?
Me personally at the age of 16 I had to stop playing football as it was not classed as women’s sport. It is great to see that there is opportunities now for women to be involved in the game from a young age all the way up to women’s. I have a daughter of my own or football to be available to her in the future is awesome.
Why is having an equal playing field important in sporting clubs?
There is such an interest in women’s football from such a young age so for clubs to make it available for all genders is great.
What advice would you give to other clubs wanting to improve gender equality at their club?
Boisdale-Briagalong Football Club had faith in making a women’s team for us and it has been fantastic to bring back a lot of players that never got the chance to keep playing from the age of 16. So for all of us to be back out there giving it a go has been great. We are part of the club just as much as the boy’s. So take that step and get every gender playing within your club. It would be great to see more Women’s team coming into the league in the coming year.
