GippSport is pleased to be able to support our colleague Regional Sports Assemblies and their communities in flood impacted areas, through a new ‘Community Sport Flood Recovery’ program coordinated by Regional Sport Victoria. We have offered our team’s support as a remote surge workforce, to help clubs, leagues and associations in flood impacted areas in getting back to playing sport as quickly as possible.
With community sport being such a key pillar of regional communities in Victoria, it is important that clubs and associations can find the information they need to assist with the recovery process.
Clubs in flood impacted areas will be able to receive free support through through the program, allowing clubs to get back to playing the sports that you love.
The Community Sport Flood Recovery page will be continually updated on the Regional Sport Victoria website and will be a one stop shop for information regarding the initiative as well as provide links to relevant current Government advice.
For clubs, leagues and associations to access support, they will need to provide their contact details via this link, and a member of the friendly RSV team will be in touch to assist you.
RSV General Manager Meghan Mayman spoke about how important it is to make life easier for volunteers, particularly during difficult times like these.
“To say sport and active recreation volunteers have had a challenging time over the past 2 years is an understatement. The floods have taken a personal toll for club volunteers recovering from the impacts of flooding. We’ve structured this support to make it as easy as possible for volunteers to return to sport.” she said.
GippSport’s Executive Officer, Dan Poynton spoke to recent experiences in Gippsland:
“We’ve had our fair share of natural disasters in the past few years in Gippsland, what we’ve learnt and what we’ve been able to contribute to this project, is that when people are focused on their homes and workplaces, volunteer roles can just be too much at time. So for us to be able to provide a surge workforce to alleviate the administrative burden of those sport volunteer roles will be very welcome. Pleasingly our GippSport team can do this, and I’m pleased that the RSAs have been able to come together through RSV to lead this statewide response for the sector.”
