The Drouin Hawks Junior Football Club (DJFC) has received funding through the Regional All Abilities Participation (RAAP) Grants Program, helping the club take an important step toward making local sport more inclusive for young people of all abilities.
The funding will allow the club to introduce new equipment and support initiatives designed to help neurodiverse children and participants with disability or additional needs enjoy junior Australian Rules Football. The program will focus on creating a safe, welcoming and accessible environment where young players can learn the game, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team.
The funding will also support coach education, with a series of training seminars to be delivered at the club by Autism Spectrum Australia. DJFC will also be supported by specialist inclusion coaches through GippSport, who will work alongside volunteer coaches to improve session accessibility and provide hands-on support and mentoring.
As part of the project, the club will purchase modified and inclusive training equipment to make football activities easier to access for beginners and players with varying abilities.
This initiative strengthens the club’s commitment to inclusion and helps ensure that every child can have a positive and welcoming experience in grassroots sport.
