Two Gippslanders Honoured at the 2024 Victorian Sport Awards

Celebrating local champions of community sport

Gippsland had plenty to celebrate at the 2024 Victorian Sport Awards, with Peter Boulter from  Sale-Maffra, Gippsland Cricket and Madelaine Breakspear, from Sale United Football Club, recognised for their outstanding contributions to community sport in Victoria.

Peter Boulter – etrainu Community Official of the Year

Peter Boulter was awarded the etrainu Community Official of the Year, recognising his significant impact on cricket officiating at the local and national level.

Peter’s involvement spans multiple competitions, including Sale-Maffra Women’s T20s, Men’s 1st XI, the Dowling Shield at Premier level, and the Over 65s National Cricket Championships. His ongoing pursuit of excellence is matched by his efforts to ensure cricket is inclusive and enjoyable for all.

Currently completing a Cricket Australia Representative Umpire Accreditation, Peter also attends club training sessions to keep up to date with the latest rules and best practices. His approachable nature and respectful conduct make him a key member of the umpiring panel, where he shares his extensive knowledge to support others.

Madelaine Breakspear – Gallagher Community Coach of the Year

Madelaine Breakspear received the Gallagher Community Coach of the Year award for her inclusive and impactful work at Sale United Football Club.

In 2024, Madelaine nurtured a women’s team with players ranging in age from 14 to 54, including new mothers juggling kids or breastfeeding. She fostered a strong sense of inclusiveness and camaraderie, with the team achieving success by winning both the League Championship and Cup titles.

Madelaine also coaches the Latrobe Valley Soccer League U18 girls, who have reached the last three Victorian Country Championship finals. She is known for her collaborative approach—regularly working with other coaches to exchange ideas for session planning and drills—and during Female Football Week, she instigated combined training sessions for junior girls and women.
